Starting school is an exciting time: a time of new experiences, new friends and new places. and a step towards independence for your child. Our Reception classes offer very high quality provision and provide a secure and happy environment where your child can play, explore, experiment, investigate and learn. We also encourage the children to acquire skills and knowledge through first-hand experience, gaining a sound understanding of the world around them discovering for themselves at their own pace. General understanding must be strengthened before children can make sense of the specialised skills that school will soon be helping them to learn.
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
Children in Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. This is the same curriculum your child will have followed at their pre-school or nursery. The curriculum is separated into seven separate but interwoven areas of learning (three Prime areas and four Specific areas), each with its own Early Learning Goal. These goals are targets which the children are guided towards and challenged to achieve during their time in Foundation Stage.

We are very proud of our Reception classes as we believe we offer children high quality provision and a positive, happy start to their learning journey. Play offers important opportunities for young children to develop their communication skills. In addition, they learn to explore, investigate, try things out and learn alongside others. Carefully thought out routines are embedded and there is a familiar pattern to children’s daily experience. As a result they feel secure and settle quickly, gaining the maximum from their first experience of school.
