Come & See and To Know You More Clearly

The Religious Education Programme:

Religious Education is taught using the ‘Come and See’ programme, covering nine distinct topics over the year. Whilst the theme behind the topic is the same for all the children, the topics are different for each year group – allowing the children to explore new aspects of the same theme. Each year we also study other faiths including Judaism, Islam and Hinduism.

‘Come and See’ is an invitation to exploration and a promise of life for everyone. The curriculum is designed to allow children to explore, unveil, and respond to Church teachings and Scripture in a manner tailored to their age group.

The primary goal of ‘Come and See’ is to stimulate curiosity and provide children with the tools to reflect on their own experiences. By prompting questions about meaning and purpose, the curriculum encourages critical thinking and self-reflection. It aims to cultivate an appreciation for the beliefs, values, and way of life within the Catholic traditions and other faiths.

Ultimately, ‘Come and See’ seeks to offer children a profound sense of self-worth by fostering a connection to the larger family community of Our Lady’s Bishop Eton School. Through this educational journey, children not only discover the wonders within and beyond themselves but also develop a deep understanding and appreciation for diverse perspectives and traditions.

The Process: Years 4-6

Explore – 1 week – This is the introduction to the topic where the children’s life experience is explored, the question(s) it raises are wondered at, shared, investigated and their significance reflected upon.

Reveal – 2 weeks -This is the heart of the programme where knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith is revealed through the Word, in Scripture, Tradition, doctrine, prayers, rites and Christian living.

Respond -1 week- This is where the learning is assimilated, celebrated and responded to in daily life.

Religious Education Directory: To Know You More Clearly

EYFS TO YEAR THREE

From September 2023, to fulfil our aims and objectives we will use the ‘To Know You More Clearly’ programme from the new Religious Education Directory prescribed by the Archdiocese of Liverpool. This programme is currently optional but will be compulsory for all year groups by 2026. We have chosen to start the programme as it is rolled out by the Archdiocese of Liverpool for each year group.

The dates for the role out of the new RED Curriculum are as follows: Autumn 2023 EYFS, Spring 2024 year One, Summer 2024 Year 2, 2024-2026 KS2
